They hadn’t realized it until now, but they had been inadvertently wearing the same t-shirts whenever they saw each other. After the third or fourth visit, he noticed that in all their photos together, the two of them looked as though they had traveled from California, through Colorado, to Texas all in one day. The thought of this perceived time-travel excited them greatly, and so, they planned and now made sure that they each always brought their respective shirts to each destination.
Long distance relationships daunt couples under the best circumstances, but futility kills couples dead in the worst. For these two, however, the prospect of collecting photos of themselves in an innumerable amount of differing locations ensured that the inevitable would be, at the very least, delayed. Of course, the sheer undertaking of their plan to always meet up in distant and far-reaching locations became daunting in and of itself. No matter, the couple acquired two-dozen-or-so portraits of themselves at two-dozen-or-so landmarks all while wearing the same shirts. Cool. Soon, for obvious reasons, they loved the idea of collecting more than they actually loved the idea of each other.
And so, like all short stories and small tales about brief and fast love that ends at a distinct and abrupt time and place, their story ended when he realized that she would never change her plans for him, and he made the brave decision to let her go. Heartbroken, she learned, years later, that she was not able to give him the thing he had wanted, and so, he posed the ultimatum. When she failed to fight for him and their relationship, he understood what she could not see.
What now —the question begs— does she do with that shirt? When she looks back now at the photos for which they spent nearly a year planning and posing, she saw that they had forgotten to wear the same pants and shoes, and they neglected to take the photos at different times of day. Nevertheless, she thinks that the pictures can be convincing evidence if she ever must prove her time-traveling abilities.
