Before the dawn, she said, “While laying in bed, I would suddenly realize I was awake, and then, I’d immediately open my eyes to the flash of the indicator light on the smoke detector.” Accordingly, she defined that time as a “horrible existence.” Largely haunted with insomnia, she often referred to her lucid days as the time when she felt the most exhausted. “Whatever ‘sleep’ meant to me at that time, it was never good, never bad, never enough, way too much, basically whatever was the opposite of whatever I thought I needed.”
